Three officers were injured when the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) responded to a shooting in the nation’s capital on Wednesday.
MPD said in a post on X, that it had responded to a shooting in the 5000 block of Hanna Place SE and asked media to stay away for safety reasons. Minutes later, the department announced that three officers had sustained “non-life-threatening injuries” and had been transported to a hospital.

“Three officers have been injured. All three suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The scene remains active,” the post reads.
The post did not elaborate on the officers’ injuries, identities, or whether a suspect was in custody. According to sources who spoke with 4 Washington, an NBC News affiliate, police were responding to calls about an individual barricaded in a house, which resulted in the lockdown of several local schools.
According to 4 Washington, three police officers were shot, and a fourth sustained minor injuries.
The officers were driven to the hospital in police cruisers and transported by ambulance.
According to police statistics, crime in the nation’s capital increased by 39% in 2023, with 67% more robberies, 82% more vehicle theft, and 35% more homicides.
