HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. – Florida Forest Service and Withlacoochee Forestry Center will be continuing the 275-acre prescribed fire on Friday.

Florida Forest Service – Withlacoochee Forestry Center will be conducting a 275-acre prescribed fire today in the Croom Tract of the Withlacoochee State Forest, Brooksville, in Hernando County.

The fire is along Dempsey Rd and Trail 3 for hazardous fuel reduction.

A “Prescribed Burn” is the controlled application of fire by a team of fire experts under specified weather conditions.

The purpose is to restore health to ecosystems that depend on fire. The burns improve wildlife habitat, eliminate vegetation build-up, and reduce the threat of future wildfires.
