TAMPA, Fla. – A construction worker is dead after a workplace accident sent him to the hospital, according to deputies.

On Friday, Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the scene of an accident at terminal 6 at approximately 6:42 a.m.

Crews are working on replacing the seawall.

Investigators say the preliminary investigation shows that as workers were moving a concrete slab, a portion estimated to weigh 3,000 pounds broke off, fell, and landed on a 27-year-old white male.

He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

OSHA is currently investigating this tragic accident.
