SPRING HILL, Fla. – A 17-year-old Spring Hill girl has died Sunday, after stepping on active downed powerlines.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, the girl was traveling northbound on Evenglow Avenue near Hyacinth Lane and collided with a powerline downed by a fallen tree during the storm Sunday.

Troopers say the girl stopped the car which caught fire along the driver side of the vehicle, then exited from the passenger side of the Dodge Avenger, and stepped on the active powerline.

The girl suffered fatal injuries after contacting the live powerline.
