HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a teen for threatening to conduct a school shooting on social media.

On January 18, 2024, HCSO’s STAR team investigators responded to Wharton High School after the school resource deputy reported a threat made by a student on social media.

During an interview with the student, Gabrielle Gregory, 16, confessed to detectives about sending a social media note stating she was going to “shoot up Wharton.”

Gregory was arrested, and she was charged with Written or Electronic Threats to Conduct a Mass Shooting or Act of Terrorism and Unlawful Use of a Two Way Communications Device.

“The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office stands firm that we will not tolerate any threat of violence within our schools,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “Our deputy’s commitment to ensuring the safety of our children remains our top priority. Anyone who thinks it is a joke to threaten that safety will face the consequences.”
