TAMPA, Fla. – A 10-year-old boy has died after a tragic crash on a scooter in Tampa, according to police.
At 6:40 PM on November 10, 2022, the Tampa Police Department was called to a traffic crash involving a motor scooter and a vehicle.
An adult male was operating the scooter with a 10-year-old boy sitting in front of him, according to police.
While turning into a gas station located at 3605 W Hillsborough Ave, the driver of the scooter made a wide turn, causing the scooter to fall over and both the driver and child to fall into oncoming traffic lanes.

Both individuals were run over by an oncoming vehicle whose driver did not see them in time to stop.
Both the driver and the child were transported to a local a hospital, where the child died from his injuries.
Crash investigators determined that the scooter driver, Yordanis Leyva, 37, was at fault and believed to be intoxicated at the time of the crash.
Leyva was arrested for DUI Manslaughter and driving with a suspended license involving death. At this time, he remains hospitalized with serious injuries.
